(referência ao musical Chicago, “Single my #*#(*”)
Eles se dizem tímidos e não falam com você, porque they like you!
Poor English version
I was about to write an article about my trip to Dublin, but I think it will take longer than my worst essay (and I’ve never had to write so many essays, reports and pro-forms in my life, here work is much more easy for teachers, they give one hour of lecture per week and ask you to do 30 hours writing an essay with 30 references. I’m doing a Project Research and a final dissertation without even choosing these modules).
I considered writing about the kinds of boys I met here in the UK. Should I write in Portuguese or in English? English because I do not want my family to read about my opinion on men or boys or Portuguese because I don’t want them to read about themselves. I want to be a Carrie Bradshaw, but is it easy? Should I?
According to Carolina Seauciuc I am a “strong independent woman” and should write about whatever I want, then, I will go for a light version of it.
The boys here and I say boys because they are between 18 and a maximum of 21 years old are the opposite of what I expected. I do not know if I have not lived enough with heterosexuals in Brazil or if I’m a weirdo, but I think that if you are a man you must have initiative otherwise you will die alone.
This rule has not changed in the last 50 years, right? From what I know, girls now have much more initiative, but nothing allows men to sit and wait for them to attack and pledge shyness. Shy my ass! (Reference to the musical Chicago, “Single my # * # (*”)
Since I got here, and remembering that this place is a bubble and everything happens very quickly, The Sims in fast forward, I met many people, men, women, x! I realized that:
– Bisexuals are the most common definition of gender. They define themselves as “greedy” because they want the two genres. I do not know if I quite agree, but from what I saw in the movies, (huahuhua), university is the time when people experience. Anyway, …
– Single and straight men are not as rare as back home, but at the same time they are very, very, verrrryyyyy slow. They say they are shy and do not talk to you because they like you! Seriously?? That’s not how it works, and if the book “He’s not that into you” has taught me anything is that if the guy does not hit on you at a party after you send him a message with a smile, it is not because he likes you. Honestly? I have no patience or goodwill, maybe I’m just not into him.
– At the same party I had the privilege of being the only girl in a group and the boys thought it was interesting to take their time to advise me on how to show my feelings (if you know what I mean) to someone. In my mind, I was praying for my girlfriends to be there with me because it was a trap. My self-esteem improved, but my faith that men would have some initiative here was flushed in the toilet
– Some can be saved, an Irish specimen I know is what I imagined the laddish lad to be, but again, he is Irish, not English. For him, sleeping with someone is one more task in his to do list.
– And finally one of my favourites, The ones in a relationship. Relationships here are incredibly bizar, I don’t understand and really I don’t want to, they are too confusing, its ok to be flirtatious even if you are dating someone else. Me no like it!
– The brats who just got in the uni and want to enjoy himself. Nothing more normal, except that he tells the most melodramatic stories trying so hard to justify that he is just not into you. Even if you ask, “Do you like me?” He does not miss an opportunity to confuse you by saying, “I’d be lying if I said I do not like.” That is, men or boys here are more melodramatic than Edward from Twilight, yeah that level.
– I’ve seen British romantic guys asking girls out, yes, those famous dates and really they are really willing to call the girl, his girlfriend.
– There are also the guys who would definitely be a menwhore in Brazil, but they need lots of alcohol and peer pressure to do something they really want, kiss a girl. In fact the sexual tension between the couple is palpable, but he is afraid and thinks he’ll get turned down. Of course not! Look your abdomen, boy!
– Those who bark more than bite, pose as a lad, make comments that lead you to think that they make out with everyone, but in the end no one has ever seen him with anyone.
– Some are so afraid and overthink whether or not to do something, asking out a girl on a date, kiss her, tell her that he likes her, whatever, that they lose the opportunity, even if he is a perfect gentlemen.
I sincerely believe that there should be guys who just want to enjoy themselves, or do not want anything serious with anyone, and do not need to know the girl before kissing her. If they do not exist here, something is very wrong with the homeostasis of the planet ! Maybe all of them are in Brazil!
My conclusion is that British like to flirt, but when they have to make a move it will take longer than the next ice age will take to arrive.
Not that I’m complaining much of their being respectful and being more passive than women here, once in a while is good to see the word flirting and courting. The Brazilians could learn a little from the gentlemen here, a cultural exchange would be good. But nobody likes extremes right? Even Mr. Darcy had prejudice.
